Indiana Pacers Mock Draft Choice: Fab Melo - Always Miller Time

With the 26th pick of the Fansided.com 2012 Mock Draft, the Indiana Pacers select Fab Melo from Syracuse.

Player name: Fab Melo
Position:  Center
Height:  6’10″
Weight:  255 lbs
School:  Syracuse

Short summary of the player and his stats from college

8 points a game

6 rebounds a game

3 blocks a game

Anchors two-three zones

Runs the floor well in transition

Provides low-post scoring

Why the decision was made to select this player

I liked the idea of a backup center to Roy Hibbert as long as the Pacers resign Hibbert.  This is a guy who’s young, but definitely has the talent to play.  I love the idea that he’s a shot blocker, and hope that can carry over to the NBA game.

How he will fit in with the team

I think he would fit in fine as the backup center.  This is a younger team as well, so that should help him fit in.  But there’s also guys who have a few more years of experience. I would think Hibbert is going to be a great asset for Melo.  He can show him how to work on the block and how to control that paint area. I wouldn’t mind seeing them play a bit together at times.

Best case and worst case scenarios for this player

Best case:  Fab Melo comes in year one, and provides reliable back up ability to the center/power forward positions.  Getting around his average in college would be great for that back up role.

Worst case:  Getting injured in his first season and not getting the playing time he needs.
