INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (WLFI) - Former Purdue Boilermaker, JaJuan Johnson, is enjoying life in the NBA. He was drafted by the Boston Celtics with the 27th pick in the first round and 28 picks later, his college teammate E'Twaun Moore became his NBA teammate.
"Somebody I have known for years and we happened to play on the same team and its crazy how we got drafted together but it definitely worked out and I'm glad that he is here and I couldn't think of a better situation," said JaJuan Johnson.
Johnson has seen limited minutes in his rookie season so far. He entered Saturday's game against the Pacers with one second to go in the first half. But in the second half, Johnson played the final two minutes and scored 4 points, both of which, were assisted by E'Twaun Moore.
"Anytime that we play together there is always a connection," said E'Twaun Moore.
"Obviously I wish that I could play more but I'm always working hard and not complaining about it and just putting extra time in the gym and that is all I can really do," said Johnson.
Johnson is having to grow and learn quickly as a professional in his rookie season. Among those helping and mentoring him is Kevin Garnett.
"I try to give them insight and talk to them candidly and I'm very straight up and they want it and I love that in young guys. JaJuan is a little more soft spoken than E'Twaun, but once he starts competing then that fire comes out," said Kevin Garnett.
"He's done nothing but show me love and look out for us and show us pointers on anything that we want and he's always willing to help us so he has been a great mentor," said Johnson.
Johnson had a blast in his return to his hometown. He hugged and spoke with family and friends at the end of the game before the team left town. This won't be the last time Indiana will see JaJuan.
"The future is bright for both of them (JaJuan and E'Twaun), and I just continue to tell them to work hard and be humble with everything," said Garnett.
