Indiana picked up its second commitment in the 2013 recruiting class when Cincinnati Moeller tight end Evan Jansen announced his intentions to play in Bloomington.
The 6-5, 240 lb. Jansen is considered a late blooming prospect who is just beginning to scratch the surface of his potential. He caught only three passes his junior season, but was overshadowed by upper classmen at the skill positions.
Jansen reportedly chose IU over Mid-American conference schools, as well as Harvard, and Buffalo. He was also receiving some interest from Boston College and Duke, but felt Indiana offered the best fit.
âIâd been to some other schools in the summer for camps, but I was really just comparing all of them to IU, because I liked it there a lot,â Jansen said. âAnd I didnât like the other schools as much because I was always comparing them to IU. In the end, I realized that meant I should probably commit to Indiana.â
Jansen's high school coach, John Rodenberg, said the Hoosiers are getting a steal. âTheyâre getting a player who is definitely on the upswing,â Rodenberg said. âHis career is taking off. ⦠Iâve been saying he could be a big-time tight end for somebody, and heâs going to be a big-time tight end for Indiana. "
Asked to provide a scouting report, Rodenberg added, âHeâs going to be one of those guys who will be 250 pounds, but can still run a (4.8 second 40-yard dash). Heâs that athletic. Heâs going to be a monster.â
Jansen joins Fort Wayne Homestead receiver Issac Griffith as IU's two pledges thus far.
