WASHINGTON - The No. 18/16 Georgetown University women's basketball squad (13-3, 2-1 BIG EAST) is scheduled to host the No. 2/3 University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish (15-1, 3-0 BIG EAST) on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m., at McDonough Arena. The game will be broadcast live on CBS College Sports with Brent Stover on the call and Debbie Antonelli doing color.
After falling to the DePaul University Blue Demons, 59-50, earlier in the week, the Hoyas bounced back with a 66-56 victory over the University of South Florida Bulls in Tampa, Fla. Senior forward Tia Magee (Tulsa, Okla./Jenks), classmate Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) and junior guard Sugar Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) led Georgetown with 12 points apiece and Magee added 11 boards while Crawford had 10. It marked Magee's third-career double-double and her second of the season. Crawford notched her first double-double of the season and posted the fourth of her career. Rodgers scored 28 in the loss to DePaul.
Rodgers has led the Hoyas in points in 12 of 16 games so far this season with a high of 39 points in the win over Dartmouth University at the Blue Sky Classic. She is averaging 20.1 ppg to lead the BIG EAST, 5.3 rpg to rank third on the team and has a squad-high 42 steals. She also shoots a team-high 86.5 percent from the free throw line.
Magee is second on the squad with 11.4 ppg and a squad-best 7.1 rpg. Senior point guard Rubylee Wright (Latta, S.C./Latta) is averaging 6.6 ppg, while freshman Taylor Brown (Bowie, Md./Bishop McNamara) is averaging 5.9 ppg to round out the top four. Wright also leads the Georgetown squad with 76 assists.
The Fighting Irish are 15-1 on the year and 3-0 in conference play. In its last game, UND downed the No. 2 University of Connecticut in overtime, 74-67, in a comeback victory after trailing by as much as eight. Junior guard Skylar Diggins led the way with 22 points, while senior guard Natalie Novosel added 20. Sophomore guard Kayla McBride had a team-high 12 boards.
Diggins is leading the squad with 15.6 ppg, while Novosel is averaging 15.9 ppg and the Fighting Irish has four players averaging double figures. Forward Devereaux Peters is posted a team-best 7.6 rpg. UND's lone loss came to No. 1 Baylor by a score of 94-81.
Georgetown is 3-24 all-time against Notre Dame and 2-9 at home. Last season, the Hoyas fell to the Fighting Irish, 80-58, in South Bend, Ind. The last meeting at McDonough Arena was during the 2009-10 season when GU upset then-No. 4/4 UND, 76-66. Rodgers, Crawford and Magee all came up big in that game with 24, 18 and 17 points, respectively. Magee also pulled down seven boards, while Crawford and Rodgers each posted six. It made program history making Notre Dame the highest-ranked opponent a Hoyas squad has defeated.
Tipoff on Tuesday is scheduled for 7 p.m.
