Dungy: Going to be tough to get a better coach than Caldwell - Fox 59

Former head coach Tony Dungy was in Indianapolis Thursday and dismissed any speculation that he would interview for his old position with the Indianapolis Colts.

At a Walgreens event Thursday morning, Dungy answered questions following the firing of the team’s most recent head coach Jim Caldwell.

“It’s disappointing you know, the last couple of weeks,” said Dungy.  “It’s been a family, so to see Bill Polian, Chris Polian and Jim Caldwell leave, it tough.”

Dungy said he knows Colts owner Jim Irsay is just making decisions for the franchise and the future of the team. He compared his feelings to parents getting a divorce, stating “you love both sides.”

Dungy had nothing but positive things to say about Caldwell and wished the coach the best in his next job search.

“It’s going to be tough to get a better coach than Jim Caldwell,” said Dungy.

When asked if he would consider coming back and coaching, Dungy laughed and said he would not.

“I’ll tell you what, I had a great job when I was here,” said Dungy. “It was the best job you can ever have. Don’t see coming back, I don’t see that in my future.”

Dungy also shared his thoughts on Peyton Manning.  The former coach said Manning is very competitive and time will tell when he will play again.  Dungy said he spoke with Manning a few months back and said the star quarterback plans on playing.

Dungy said fans need to be patient while the Indianapolis Colts are in the rebuilding process.

“I have a lot of faith in Jim, and I believe he’ll make good decisions going forward.”
