The senior wide receiver was arrest in his home town of Ft. Myers early Monday morning on a felony weapons charge
May 7, 2012 - Senior wide receiver Antavian Edison was arrested early Monday morning in his home town of Ft. Myers, Florida, becoming the second Purdue Boilermakers football player to be arrested this offseason. Edison was arrested with his brother and was charge with a felony concealed weapons charge:
According to the Fort Meyers News-Press, Edison was arrested at 1:57 a.m. Sunday in Fort Myers and released later that morning on $1,500 bond.
Purdue is not commenting on Edison's status as it gathers more details about the situation.
Edison led Purdue with 584 yards receiving last season and was second on the team in receptions with 44. He had three receiving and two rushing touchdowns as well. Hammer & Rails reports that if convicted, the penalties are steep:
Edison got arrested in Florida, and that is bad because their gun laws mean it is a felony charge for possession of a concealed firearm. ESPN doesn't specify that it was a firearm, but he was charged with a felony, which means a firearm is a strong possibility. Here is what he could be facing:
Carrying a Concealed Firearm: An individual who carries a Concealed Firearm, while unlicensed, on or about his/her person is charged with a 3rd Degree Felony. A third degree felony carries a maximum penalty of 5 years in jail and a $5000 fine.
