The Michigan Wolverines may be able to take advantage of a weak Notre Dame secondary on Saturday, as Jamoris Slaughter is set to miss the season for the Fighting Irish with a torn Achilles tendon.
Sep 17, 2012 - Credit the Michigan St. Spartans for potentially making things a bit easier on the Michigan Wolverines this coming week, as Michigan is set to face a Notre Dame Fighting Irish squad that had a player go down with a serious injury in Saturday's game against the Spartans. Notre Dame safety Jamoris Slaughter is set to miss the rest of the year with a torn Achilles tendon, according to Matt Fortuna of ESPN.
Head coach Brian Kelly had a quote regarding the injury, courtesy of ESPN's news:
"You lose a Jamoris Slaughter, you're losing an A player," Kelly said Sunday. "Matthias is certainly not at the level yet of a Jamoris Slaughter. He's got to continue to develop, but we have a lot of confidence and trust in him. He'll be getting a lot of work back there."
Slaughter suffered the injury on the first play of the second half on Saturday, and was seen on crutches after the game. There's absolutely no chance he can return from an injury like that this season. He joins a list of secondary injuries that includes Austin Collinsworth and Lo Wood, both of whom are out for the season.
It's likely that wide receiver convert Matthias Farley, a redshirt freshman, will make the start on Saturday against No. 18 Michigan. He joins converted running back KeiVarae Russell and converted receiver Bennett Jackson in the secondary, so this should be interesting.
