There are reports floating out there that Roy Hibbert is getting interest from some teams, and the Pacers will have to match whatever those teams are offering. Sure a max contract might hurt the franchise for a bit, but if youâre getting a big man thatâs going to do something for your team, you keep him around.
Look at how far Roy Hibbert has come around making himself an All-Star this past season, so I do say that you have to give Hibbert what he needs to stay here. Â He does seem like he wants to be a Pacer, and thereâs still room for improvement with him.
If he can improve upon his ability to be more aggressive, thatâs definitely going to be a reason that his contract is worth the money. Â If he can continue his defense that saw him always getting a hand in the way of guys coming down the lane, that would also signal that the Pacers made the best decision.
Itâs going to be hard to see where this ends up because the Pacers might not want to give all that money out and have no room for anything else. Â But then again, I donât see what else is out there. Â Brandon Roy has a meeting scheduled with the Pacers this week. Â But this is a guy who got injured, and had to retire for a year. Â The word is heâs much healthier now and should be fine. Â I would think thatâs a big liability.
The Pacers need to make a deal for Hibbert soon or else there wonât be the options out there if Hibbert does take an offer from a team. Â Then weâll have to figure out who to start, and I can only imagine weâll see much more of Miles Plumlee, the draft pick that fans so lovely tore down before he even put on the Pacers hat.
