The 2012 MVC Baseball Tournament is on at Hammons Fieldâ€"follow along here at SB Nation St. Louis.
May 22, 2012 - The Indiana State Sycamores go into the 2012 MVC Baseball Tournament as the top-seeded squad, but they'll have to face off against Creighton Tuesday at 12:30 if they're going to get a shot at the No. 2 Missouri State Bears. The official bracket is available here; here's a look at Tuesday's Missouri Valley Conference contests at Hammons Field, home of the St. Louis Cardinals' AA affiliate:
No. 4 Illinois State Redbirds vs. No. 5 Evansville Purple Aces. The 31-17 Redbirds face the 31-25 Purple Aces, who finished 10-11 in the MVC, at 9 AM.
No. 1 Indiana State Sycamores vs. No. 8 Creighton Bluejays. The Bluejays, 6-14 in-conference and 22-28 overall, are serious underdogs against the 14-7, 41-15 Sycamores, but baseball's a great sport to be an underdog in for one game. They'll square off at 12:30 PM.
No. 3 Wichita State Shockers vs. No. 6 Southern Illinois Salukis. Two of the Missouri Valley Conference's most successful basketball teams come into the 2012 MVC Baseball Tournament as mid-level squads. The 35-23 (12-9) Shockers will get the SIU Salukis, 28-27 (9-12), at 4 PM.
No. 2 Missouri State Bears vs. No. 7 Bradley Braves. The MVC's preseason No. 1, 37-18 (13-7), gets the 26-25 (8-13) Bradley Bears of Peoria at 7:30 PM.
