Christian Watford returning to Indiana Hoosiers for senior season - SportingNews.com

Indiana Hoosiers forward Christian Watford will return to school for his senior season, the school announced Tuesday.

Watford, a 6-7 forward, was second for the Hoosiers this season in scoring (12.0) and rebounding (5.9). He closed the season with a 27-point effort against the eventual champion Kentucky in the Sweet 16.

"I'm looking forward to the opportunity to complete my degree and to continue restoring the winning tradition at IU," Watford said in a statement. "I believe in Coach Crean and our staff and I am eager to lead my new teammates and build on what we started."

Most notably, Watford nailed the buzzer-beating 3-pointer that sent Kentucky to its only defeat of the regular season.

Of its top nine scorers from this season, Indiana loses just one -- Verdell Jones III, who missed the NCAAs after tearing his ACL in the Big Ten Tournament. On Tuesday, freshman big man Cody Zeller also announced he will return to Indiana.

"Christian really ended the season on a high note on the biggest stage and is building off that," Indiana coach Tom Crean said. "He is going to have the opportunity to be a leader and have an even greater impact on the program and his game, but more importantly, he will earn his degree from IU."

Last week, Sporting News' Ryan Fagan wrote that with both Zeller and Watford back, Indiana would be the favorite next season in the Big Ten.
