Notre Dame Football: What the Enrollment of Gunner Kiel Means for Fighting Irish - Bleacher Report

After a lengthy, dizzying recruiting process, Gunner Kiel has formally enrolled at the University of Notre Dame. That's great news for the Fighting Irish, who were in need of a spark to their recruiting crop that had taken hits with the losses of Ronald Darby and Taylor Decker.

Kiel's decision to attend Notre Dame could have a profound impact in the current recruiting cycle, as well as those to come.

Any time a 5-star quarterback chooses to attend a certain school, other prospects are likely to take notice. Could that result in Notre Dame having a joyous National Signing Day? At this point, no one knows.

Answers aren't likely to be known until that day comes. However, there's always time to speculate.

If one thing is for sure, it's that the status of Deontay Greenberry's pledge to Notre Dame has become rock solid with Kiel's decision to attend Notre Dame. As my colleague, David Young, pointed out in his slideshow published yesterday, Greenberry declared that Kiel's decision was "the smartest move he ever made in his life."

Greenberry's feelings are similar to those felt by recruits a few years ago, when Jimmy Clausen, the last 5-star quarterback to attend Notre Dame, committed to the Irish.

Golden Tate, Michael Floyd and Kyle Rudolph, among others, flocked to Notre Dame because of the chance to play with a quarterback of Clausen's status.

To compare that with this season's class, players such as Nelson Agholor, Davonte Neal, Arik Armstead, etc., could potentially choose Notre Dame because of the opportunity to play with Gunner Kiel.

The good news for Kiel is that he'll have a number of elite receivers to throw to for the next four seasons, including Greenberry, Chris Brown, Justin Ferguson and DaVaris Daniels.

Each of those receivers is a perfect fit in the no-huddle, spread attack, and having Kiel distributing the football to them makes for one lethal offense.

With a stable of running backs already on the roster and an offensive line that will only continue to improve, the future of the Irish offense only became brighter with Kiel's decision to attend Notre Dame.
