Brian Kelly's third recruiting class in South bend took a bit of a hit late Sunday night as a current commitment backed out and reopened his commitment just weeks before signing day. Ronald Darby, one of the most highly recruited cornerbacks in the country, announced on Sunday night that he would not be signing with the Fighting Irish and that he would visit both Florida State and Clemson:
Darby stars for Potomac (Oxon Hill, Md.) and is one of the top players in the state. The 5'11, 174-pound Darby plans to visit Florida State and Clemson. Other visits are possible as well, including Ohio State and LSU. Darby has previously visited Auburn and Maryland.
Darby is rated either four or five stars by the four major recruiting services. He is extremely quick and fast. Darby is a bit raw, and seems like a pure cover corner who will likely never be great against the run. Darby should be expected to make an instant impact in the return game, as well.
