The Indianapolis Colts apparently are in the homestretch in their pursuit of a new head coach.
Owner Jim Irsay, who's driving the search, turned to his trusty Twitter account again today to keep fans abreast of that issue, as well as another.
"The #1 pick debate will rage on,what a great year to have it..the HC coach search is wide ranging n thorough, decision by mid 2 late next week," he wrote.
The search began Tuesday when Irsay and general manager Ryan Grigson fired coach Jim Caldwell.
The Colts have talked with former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel on two occasions and interviewed New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr. and Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray.
It's believe their list of prospects also includes Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and former Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress.
Aside from naming a new head coach, the Colts must determine how best to invest the first overall pick in the April draft. Irsay told ESPN in a Thursday interview that will air during Super Bowl week that it will be hard to pass up on either Stanford quarterback Andrew Luck or Baylor's Robert Griffin III.
"I don't see that," he said.
