Connecticut Vs. Notre Dame: Fighting Irish Host Huskies In Big East Battle - SB Nation

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish (11-6, 3-1) host the No. 17 Connecticut Huskies (13-3, 3-2) at the Joyce Center on Saturday afternoon with both teams trying to keep pace among the leaders in the crowded Big East standings.

While No. 1 Syracuse remains unbeaten atop the standings at 5-0, the Irish and Huskies are among seven teams within a half game of each other. At 3-1 Notre Dame is currently tied for second place with Cincinnati and will be looking to win their third-straight game beating South Florida and Louisville in their last two games.

UConn is looking to build some momentum after stumbling on the road in the Big East with recent losses at Seton Hall and Rutgers. The Huskies have had four full days to prepare for Notre Dame after beating West Virginia on Monday, 64-57.

The Huskies don't lack for talent with sophomore swingman Jeremy Lamb leading the team in scoring with 18.6 points per game. Freshman center Andre Drummond is also a load around the rim pitching in 10.2 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

The Irish are lead by a pair of sophomore guards with Jerian Grant averaging 13.4 points a game and Eric Atkins adding 12.7 points.
