College Basketball: Butler Loses At Hinkle To Cleveland State 76-69 - SB Nation

The Butler Bulldogs continue struggling through their season, dropping to 9-9 and 3-3 in Horizon League play after conference leader, Cleveland State kept a Butler comeback at bay to take home a 76-69 win.

Once again, Butler fell behind big early and was force to expend a lot of energy to get back in the game, which they did. After the Vikings jumped out to a 20-4 lead in the first eight minutes of the game, the Bulldogs began the slow climb back into the game to only trail by two, 35-33 at at the half.

A pair of Andrew Smith free throws gave Butler a 41-40 lead early in the second half, but Cleveland State's senior guard Jeremy Montgomery answered with two of his game-high 18 points which gave the Vikings a lead back they would never relinquish again. Vikings' junior forward Tim Kamczyc helped out Montgomery by pitching in 17 points and five rebounds.

Butler had four players in double figures, led by Smith with 13 points but it wasn't enough to keep up with the Vikings. Butler actually shot the ball well from behind the three-point arc, making 10 of 21 shots, but struggled closer to the hoop only making seven of 21 shots for the game.

Things were worse from the free throw line though where the Bulldogs earned an incredible 42 shots for the game but were only able to make 25 (59.5%). Ronald Nored and Roosevelt Jones together combined to make just 13 of 24 free throws.
