Boilermakers Head To Bloomington For Indiana/Purdue Dual - Purdue Boilermakers

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue track and field teams return to action this weekend as they head down to Bloomington, Ind., for an instate rivalry as they take part in the Indiana/Purdue dual at Gladstein Fieldhouse. The meet scoring will be done in dual format with the winner of each event earning five points, the second place finisher three points, and one point to the third place finisher in the meet that starts at 2 p.m. ET.

This is the third year of what is becoming an annual rivalry between the two schools. Indiana has won the previous two meets on both the men's and women's sides. The Boilermakers hope to avenge last year's 89-47 women's loss and 77-59 men's loss as several Purdue standouts will compete for the first time this season.

"It's going to be a very competitive meet on Saturday," said Purdue head coach Jack Warner. "IU is a very strong program and we are looking forward to going toe-to-toe with them. This will be a great experience for our team to compete against a great team and rival. This will give us an early read on where we are at this point in the season. Overall, it will be a very tough, competitive meet."

Juniors Geoff Davis and Jakob Engel will compete alongside senior Mike Willey and Brandon Winters for a strong men's lineup. Sophomore transfer Kevin Griffith will get his first taste of action for the Old Gold and Black as he will jump right into the 800m run. An All-American a year ago and runner-up at the Indoor Big Ten Championships in the high jump, Davis will compete for the first time this season. Last year at the Big Ten Championships, Davis set a personal best of 2.23m.

Engel came on strong last season in the outdoor season en route to an honorable mention All-American nomination in the shot put. He looks to build off of his performance last weekend at the Purdue Invitational where he threw a distance of 16.74m in the shot put and 16.92m in the weight throw.

On the women's side, redshirt senior Leah Eber and sophomore Nikki Nunn will make their season debuts. Eber was last year's indoor Big Ten Champion in the long jump and Nunn finished the same event in fourth. Dani Bunch and Terri Anderson will anchor the women's throws group for the Boilermakers. In her freshman season a year ago, Bunch was the Big Ten champion in the weight throw. Last week, Anderson bested all of her indoor shot put performances from a year ago and finished just short of her career mark in the shot put with a mark of 15.45m.
