The crew selling tickets down at Bankers Life Fieldhouse should head to work today with a bounce in their step after seeing the Indiana Pacers 2012-13 schedule.
After finishing 29th in home attendance out of 30 NBA teams last season, the Pacers should see a significant jump up that list this season. For starters, the Miami Heat, New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls all play twice in Indy which always means a capacity crowd. This season there should be more Pacers fans among those filling the Fieldhouse for those opponents, though.
Also, the Pacers play 13 Friday night games which always brings out great, energetic (and/or drunk) crowds. Not only that, but some of those Friday games are huge and as Frank Vogel mentioned, he expects a playoff atmosphere for those games. Among the teams visiting on Friday nights are Dallas (DC and DJ return with Dirk), San Antonio (first visit in two years), Houston (Jeremy Lin posse), and then Miami, L.A. Lakers and Oklahoma City ('nuff said).
As for the games away from the Fieldhouse, the Pacers play 12 of their first 18 on the road, a stretch that ends with the first of three four-game road trips when they play at the L.A. Lakers, Sacramento, Golden State and Chicago starting in L.A. on November 27th. The other two four-game trips are spaced nicely with one starting on January 21st (@Memphis, @Portland, @Utah and @Denver) and the final trip starting on March 27th (@Houston, @Dallas, @Phoenix, @L.A. Clippers).
This is turning into a no excuses season all around for the Pacers. The core team and coaching staff is all back, so barring injury, there are no excuses for not remaining among the top teams in the East. As for the fan support at the Fieldhouse, the schedule couldn't be much friendlier so there are no excuses for not seeing those home attendance numbers rise near the top of the East, as well.
