Former Hoosier Reed dies of cardiac arrest - Examiner.com

Former Indiana University basketball player Neil Reed, who accused legendary Hoosiers coach Bob Knight of choking him during a practice session in 1997, passed away of apparent cardiac arrest Thursday. Reed was 37.

After a star-crossed career at IU and subsequent transfer to Southern Mississippi to finish his career, Reed completed his undergraduate degree in Sports Administration. He worked briefly at ESPN before relocating to California.

Reed at one time was a favorite of Hoosier fans for his apparent hustle and willingness to dive after any loose ball. After the accusation against Knight, he was largely cast as a bitter former player who never developed to his potential.

Reed had been the high school boys varsity basketball coach and boys golf coach at Pioneer High School outside Santa Maria, CA. He joined the school's staff in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Kelly, and two daughters, Marley and Presley.
