On Thursday night, a total of two games were played in the WNBA. Defending champions Minnesota Lynx headed into the five week Olympic break with a win over Tulsa Shock while Los Angeles Sparks managed to edge out Indiana Fever. Letâs round up the nightâs action.
1.     Minnesota Lynx versus Tulsa Shock
Maya Moore erupted with a franchise record 19 points in the second quarter to help Minnesota Lynx take down Tulsa Shock 89-74 in the first game of Thursday night. Moore finished the game with a total of 28 points on an 8-of-12 shooting to go along with 11 rebounds, and also set a career high record of free throws made in a game by shooting the ball 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.
She was supported well by Seimone Augustus who finished the game with 14 points and so did Monica Wright. Lindsay Whalen had 11 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds while Taj McWilliams-Franklin ended the game with 8 points, 12 boards and 3 blocks.
On the other end, Tulsa relied on their rookie Glory Johnson to carry the offensive burden. The forward didnât disappoint and finished off with game highs of 30 points and 14 rebounds. Riquna Williams came off the bench to chip in with 11 points for Shock, who shot just 33.8 percent from the floor.
2.     Los Angeles Sparks versus Indiana Fever
The second matchup of the night saw Los Angeles Sparks edge out Indiana Fever 77-74, courtesy of a record setting night from their rookie Nneka Ogwumike.
Ogwumike managed her way to 22 points and 20 rebounds and also set a WNBA record by collecting 12 offensive boards in the game. Candace Parker and Kristi Toliver both managed to score 19 points for Fever, who have now won their fifth game in a row.
Fever were paced by the ever reliable Tamika Catching, who bore most of the load on the offensive end and managed to muster 27 points in the ball game. However, she was let down by her teammates, who failed to pick up the slack. Brian January was the only other player who could cross the double-digit mark with 11 points and that too on a 3-of-10 shooting.
