Purdue RB Gentry no longer on team - SportingNews.com

Purdue Boilermakers running back Doug Gentry, a redshirt freshman, is no longer on the football team, further muddying the backfield situation, the Lafayette (Ind.) Journal and Courier reported.

Gentry, who rushed for more than 1,000 yards three times at Mexia (Texas) High School, redshirted last season but rushed for 91 yards in Purdue’s spring game, including runs of 35 and 42 yards.

The Boilermakers’ leading rusher from last season, Ralph Bolden, is coming off a his third ACL injury and also was arrested in April on suspicion of public intoxication after an incident at a West Lafayette bar. He ran for 674 yards in 2011.

Akeem Shavers and Akeem Hunt are expected to be the team’s top two running backs this season, according to the Journal and Courier.
