Larry Bird, who still hasn't finalized a deal to return as president of the Indiana Pacers, plans to elevate Kevin Pritchard to general manager, Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
Pritchardâs promotion will spell the end of David Morwayâs successful tenure as GM, according to Wojnarowski. Formerly the GM of the Portland Trail Blazers, Pritchard "rapidly usurped power and influence" from Morway, according to Wojnarowski, who said the decision is "largely baffling to other executives."
Pritchard was fired by the Trail Blazers in 2010 for what Wojnarowski called a "self-aggrandizing management style" that alienated him from the rest of the organization, though he did draft LaMarcus Aldridge, Brandon Roy and Nicolas Batum.
Indiana finished the regular season 42-24, good for the third-best record in the Eastern Conference. They lost to the Miami Heat in a six-game conference semifinals series.
