Charlie Weis Still Being Paid Millions By Notre Dame Football - SB Nation

Charlie Weis, currently coaching the Kansas Jayhawks, hasn't been with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish since 2009, when he was fired as their head football coach after five years with the team. Of course, they paid quite a bit to have him on staff back then and according to the Chicago Tribune and some tax documents it got on request, Notre Dame are even now paying a pretty penny to a guy who hasn't coached them for three years.

Star-divide

Since 2009, Notre Dame's 990 form from the IRS revealed that Weis has received $8.7 million from the school without doing a single thing for the program. That includes over $2 million in buyout money paid from July 2010 to June 2011 and a whopping $6 million in buyout money from his original firing. The amount of money could get as high as $19 million in annual payments until they stop in 2015, according to the tax forms the Tribune acquired.

"Termination payment of $2,054,744 was made during the reporting period to Charles J. Weis under a separation agreement that includes additional annual payments through December, 2015," the latest form states.

The original $6.6 million payout was to be followed by "much smaller payments," according to previous documents. Weis also received $469,727 from Play by Play sports â€" now known as Notre Dame Sports Properties â€" and an additional $1,095 of unspecified "other reportable compensation."

Even if they do move to 'much smaller payments' as the years continue, that's a hell of a lot of money to be paid for someone to not coach your football team.
