Granville, Ohio - DePauw shot over 50 percent from the floor for the third straight game and extended its win streak to three with a 73-68 North Coast Athletic Conference victory at Denison. The Tigers improved to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the NCAC, while the Big Red dropped to 6-10 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Denison led by as many as three in the first half before Barry Flynn's two jumpers sandwiched a Pat Haggin three and gave the Tigers a 23-19 lead. DePauw closed the half with a 6-0 run and headed to the break with a 37-27 lead.
The Tigers stretched the lead to 12 early in the second half before Denison eventually closed to within 46-44. Sean Haseley and Michael Wilkison each hit threes to push DePauw's lead back to eight.
Flynn's jumper with 3:20 remaining gave DePauw a 65-56 advantage, but the Big Red scored seven straight to close the gap to 65-63 with 1:11 left. Flynn's layup with 40 seconds left extended the margin to four and the hosts couldn't convert on the other end. The Tigers proceeded to hit all six free throw attempts in the final 31 seconds to seal the win.
Flynn posted a double-double of 20 points and a career-high 14 rebounds in the win, while Haseley added 16 points and Wilkison dished out six assists. Connor Rich scored a career-high 13 points.
Dimonde Hale paced Denison with 14 points followed by Brett Tiberi with 12. Alex Longi and Jon Akpapunam each scored 11 with Bret Woolard adding 10. Woolard led the Big Red with nine rebounds and Larry Farmer handed out seven assists and totaled three steals.
DePauw hit 53.8 percent from the field marking the third straight game of 50 percent or better shooting and the seventh time this season. Denison shot 42.1 percent from the field and each team grabbed 31 rebounds.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, January 21, when they host Oberlin at 3 p.m.
