Elijah Shumate committed to Notre Dame at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl

Jan 7, 2012 - While the results on the field this season didn't quite meet expectations, Brian Kelly and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish are putting together an impressive recruiting class that will serve as the foundation for the program going forward. This class picked up another key addition when Elijah Shumate chose the Fighting Irish at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

Shumate, who is ranked as a 4* prospect according to Rivals.com, is the 18th commit for Notre Dame. He chose the Fighting Irish over South Carolina and Rutgers. The Don Bosco Prep star is projected to play either safety or linebacker at the next level and has the build to make an early impact in South Bend. Shumate is the ffifth defensive back to commit to Notre Dame, joining John Turner, Tee Shepard, CJ Prosise and Ronald Darby.
