Colts' GM search includes at least 6 - Indianapolis Star

Owner Jim Irsay promised an "extensive search" for a new Indianapolis Colts general manager, and that quest is turning up candidates all over the country. His list of possible successors to former vice chairman Bill Polian and former vice president/general manager Chris Polian has reached at least six and spans from Indianapolis to New York to Dallas.

The Colts have been given permission to interview Atlanta Falcons director of player personnel Les Snead next week, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and also are expected to speak with Falcons director of college scouting David Caldwell, a former Colts scout.

Another candidate with Indiana ties, Philadelphia Eagles director of player personnel (and Purdue graduate) Ryan Grigson has spoken with the Colts, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer. The Chicago Sun-Times cited a league source as saying the Colts were to interview New York Giants director of college scouting Marc Ross on Friday.

The Colts have requested permission to interview Dallas Cowboys assistant director of scouting Tom Ciskowski, sources told ESPNDallas.com. That interview could take place this weekend.

The Colts' interest in Baltimore Ravens director of player personnel Eric DeCosta and their own Tom Telesco have been reported previously, but DeCosta is going nowhere. The Ravens issued a release Friday that said DeCosta will not interview for other positions and is staying with Baltimore.

The St. Louis Rams and Chicago Bears also had sought permission to interview DeCosta.

Telesco has been with the Colts 14 years, including six as director of player personnel, but they aren't the only team interested in him. The Rams have asked permission to interview Telesco and he is reportedly under consideration by the Bears.

Snead and Grigson also are expected to meet with the Rams regarding their GM position.

The NFL's fourth vacant general manager slot has been filled. The Oakland Raiders reached agreement with Green Bay Packers director of football operations Reggie McKenzie, a former Raiders player. They are expected to announce the move Tuesday, ESPN reported.

Snead is in his 13th season with the Falcons' personnel department and third in his current position. He oversees both college and pro scouting under general manager Thomas Dimitroff. Snead worked as a pro scout with the Jaguars from 1995-97 before joining the Falcons.

Caldwell is in his 16th NFL season, 12 of which were as a scout under Bill Polian, first with Carolina, 1996-97, then with the Colts, 1998-2007. He is in his fourth season as director of college scouting with the Falcons.

Grigson, Highland, Ind., played tight end and tackle at Purdue (1991-94). He was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the sixth round in 1995, spent that season with the Detroit Lions, then played one year for Toronto in the CFL. He is in his ninth season with the Eagles and second as director of player personnel.

Ross has spent 12 of his 15 NFL years in two stints with the Giants, for whom he has been in charge of college scouting and the team's draft for five years. He came to the Giants from Buffalo, where he scouted for the Bills for three seasons.

Ciskowski has overseen college and pro scouting for Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones the past five years. He has been with Dallas since 1992; before that, he spent 15 years in high school and college coaching.
