Butler tries to keep pace in the Horizon against Illinois-Chicago.

The Butler Bulldogs kick off four straight road games with Thursday’s trip to Ill.-Chicago Flames. The Bulldogs, 10-9 and 4-3 in the Horizon, are coming off a 16-point win over Youngstown State on Sunday. Butler snapped a two-game losing streak against the Penguins, and it should have a chance to make it two in a row against UIC.

The Flames are 6-11 and 2-5 in the Horizon, and they have one of the nation’s most, shall we say, methodical offenses. The Flames haven’t cracked the 60-point mark in any of their last three games. On the season UIC is 316th in the country in field goal percentage and 302nd in points.

The Bulldogs are currently sitting at fifth in the conference standings, and they are far from out of it as conference play heats up. Only one team, Milwaukee, is better than 5-2, and Butler, having already beaten the Panthers once, has a date with them next week.

What's more, Butler plays the bottom three teams in the conference â€" who boast a combined 20-34 record â€" a total of five times before season’s end. Illinois-Chicago happens to be one of those teams. Next up, 0-7 Loyola.
