Already seeking to bolster a perenially weak defense with an influx of junior-college players, Indiana added a defensive back to the mix before the start of fall camp on Thursday.
Head coach Kevin Wilson announced that Tim Bennett, a 5-9, 181-pound cornerback from Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa, is set to join the Hoosiers and eligible for the 2012 season.
Bennett earned all region honors this past season, when he collected 50 tackles, 35 solo, with one interception and one tackle for loss.
A native of Columbus, Ga., and a Northside High School graduate, Bennett was a 2010 Ledger-Enquirer All-Bi-City first team selection. He posted 102 stops, 67 solo, with three interceptions and five tackles for loss.
Bennett has three years of eligibility remaining and should provide depth to a secondary that has several returning players, but is unsettled. On the initial depth chart, Greg Heban and Lawrence Barnett are listed as starters, with Michael Hunter and Kenny Mullen also in the mix.
