Indiana Fever use a 4th quarter run to defeat Chicago Sky â€" WNBA Recap

The Indiana Fever defeated the Chicago Sky 83-72 here at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

Reigning MVP Tamika Catchings had 22 points and 5 assists for the night, going 7 of 14 from the field and 6 of 8 from the foul line. Sylvia Fowles led the Sky scoring with 21 points and 10 rebounds, going 7 of 11 from the field.

Indiana led 21-18 at the close of the first period. The two teams went a combined 1 of 13 to start the 2nd quarter, with Catchings’ finger roll being the first point of the quarter at the 7:29 mark. Chicago had their first points for the quarter at the 6 minute mark, going scoreless for almost half the quarter. Indiana led 37-35 at the end of the 2nd period.

The game was quite evenly balanced in the third period as well, with a couple of lead changes. The largest lead of the period was 5 points for Indiana when Erin Phillips scored a three pointer to open the scoring of the third period. Indiana led 58-54 going into the final quarter of the game.

The Fever came to life in the final period, going on a 15-4 run to extend their lead to 76-63 with only 3:11 left in the game. That run sealed the victory for the Fever, as Chicago were unable to swallow the deficit after that. Indiana eventually won 83-72.

Katie Douglas had 21 points for the Fever as she went 8 of 11 from the field and a perfect 4 of 4 from the foul line. Jessica Davenport had 12 points and 3 rebounds off the bench for the Fever. Epiphanny Prince had 17 points and four rebounds for Chicago to assist Fowles. The rest of the starters could not reach double figure points.  Eshaya Murphy added 10 points coming off the bench as Chicago was blown away by Indiana in the final quarter.

Indiana shot 48.3% from the field compared to 41.2% for Chicago. They were 5 of 15 from the distance while Chicago managed to go only 3 of 20 from the same. Chicago had a 37-25 advantage in rebounds over Indiana but committed 25 fouls compared to 16 by Indiana. As a result, the Fever had 7 more free throw attempts than Chicago and scored 7 more points off free throws.

Sky also turned the ball over 22 times, 7 more than Indiana, giving the Fever more fast break chances. Indiana capitalized, outscoring the Sky 18-11 in fast break points. The Sky had a 14-4 advantage over Indiana in offensive rebounds but could not convert possessions into points on a regular basis.

The Fever are now 2-0 in the two games they have played this season. Chicago won their first game but this loss gives them a 1-1 record this season.
