The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have lost the services of DE Aaron Lynch, who has left the team as announced Friday morning and plans to transfer.

Apr 13, 2012 - The Notre Dame Fighting Irish have lost a big cog in their defense as the new college football season approaches. Notre Dame's Director of Football Media Relations Brian Hardin announced on Twitter early Friday morning that DE Aaron Lynch has left the team and will seek to transfer elsewhere.

An incredibly highly touted prospect out of high school, Lynch was expected to start for the Irish this season after putting together a season with 5.5 sacks and 33 tackles his Freshman year. Head coach Brian Kelly was quoted as saying "You can’t make it at Notre Dame if your head and heart are not here" in response to the move.

According to CBS' Brett McMurphy, Lynch has said that he wants to head back to Florida; he is originally from Cape Coral.

No contenders for where he will transfer have become immediately apparent yet, though if he is serious about going to his home state it narrows the field rather significantly.
