The Detroit Titans have endured a rough start in Horizon League play but look every bit the talented title contender on Sunday afternoon when they beat the Butler Bulldogs,
Senior guard Chase Simon opened the game by knocking down a three-pointer for Detroit and the Titans never trailed again. And after Detroit threw a 15-2 run at the Bulldogs midway through the first half to extend their lead to 25-8, Butler would never cut the deficit below ten points.
Butler tried to mount a second half rally and cut the lead to 11 after Chrishawn Hopkins made a three-pointer with 11 minutes left in the game. But as was the norm for the game, Detroit had an answer and this time Jason Calliste answered with a three-pointer of his own to spark the Titans and push the lead to as much as 23 points.
Butler continued grinding to cut the lead back down by the end of the game but were never a serious threat to win the game. The loss drops Butler to 9-8 on the year and 3-2 in Horizon League play.
Ronald Nored led the Bulldogs with 13 points while Khyle Marshall chipped in 11 points off the bench. Big man Andrew Smith had his hands full with Detroit's athletic front line, ending the game with only five shot attempts for five points and two rebounds.
Detroit had five players in double figures, led by Calliste with 16 points.
