Indiana Pacers President Larry Bird is set to oust General Manager David Morway chiefly due to a breakdown in their relationship, The Indianapolis Star reported late Saturday, citing sources.
The sources said that once Bird agrees to a new deal to remain as president next week, the NBA great plans to replace Morway with Kevin Pritchard.
Pritchard has served as Pacers director of player personnel since last summer.
The moment that ultimately broke the Bird-Morway relationship came in training camp, when the Pacers did not land O.J. Mayo and then, on the same day, missed out on free agent Jamal Crawford, the sources said.
It was reportedly Morway who caused an agreed Mayo deal -- which would have seen Josh McRoberts sent to Memphis -- fall apart because he was pushing for the Grizzlies to take Brandon Rush.
Bird was reportedly fuming at the blown deal and subsequently lost any remaining trust in Morway.
Their relationship then worsened throughout the season, according to the sources.
