On top of the Eastern Conference and looking for more, the Connecticut Sun (8-2) face the conference rival Indiana Fever (5-3) in the first of a home-and-home series at 7 p.m. ET on Tuesday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
Connecticut had its three-game winning streak snapped with a six-point loss to the Los Angeles Sparks, but recovered quite nicely by trampling the New York Liberty, 97-55, on Friday and edging out the Atlanta Dream, 75-73, on Sunday night. Tina Charles tremendous performance, 23 points and 22 rebounds, set the pace for Connecticut, which shot 48.3 percent. Renee Montgomery chipped in with 19 points and Kara Lawson added 11 points in Connecticut's victory on Sunday.
Charles' dominance was rewarded, as she was named the WNBA's Eastern Conference Player of the Week. Charles is now averaging 20.8 points and 12.1 rebounds while shooting over 50 percent from the floor this season. Montgomery, Lawson and Asjha Jones have also had productive seasons, averaging 14.3 points, 13.3 points and 12.1 points, respectively.
Connecticut and Indiana have already met once this season, with the Sun prevailing, 89-81, on the road. Seven Sun players reached double digits in scoring, with an 18-point night from Lawson leading the pack. Tamika Catchings scored 31 to lead all scorers and Katie Douglas added 23 points for the Fever.
Indiana was in a funk, losing three straight, until it topped the Chicago Sky, 84-70, on Saturday. Indiana, which opened the season with five straight wins, will also host Connecticut at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.
