After sitting out most of 2011/2012 with a torn ACL, Notre Dame forward Tim Abromaitis was not granted a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA.

May 2, 2012 - As reported by ESPN on Tuesday, forward Tim Abromaitis was denied a sixth year of eligibility by the NCAA after sitting out most of the 2011/2012 season with a torn ACL. He had previously missed other time with the team after voluntarily missing the 2008/2009 season to preserve his eligibility another year.

Over his many years with the Irish, Abromaitis contributed to some very good seasons by the team and finished his career with an average of 13.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per game. Tim does not plan on appealing the decision made by the NCAA, even though they have granted sixth years to other athletes in similar situations already this off season including Trevor Mbakwe from Minnesota.

Abromaitis was a great student as well as a great basketball player for the Irish, winning the Big East Scholar-Athlete Of The Year award three years in a row.
