The Boston Celtics arrive at Bankers Life Fieldhouse tonight to play the Indiana Pacers with a bit of an edge to them. After losing two tough games to San Antonio and Chicago, coach Doc Rivers made a point to call out his team to make sure they saw nothing approaching a moral victory in playing the Spurs to the final shot and losing to the Eastern Conference leaders.
According to a report from Gary Washburn (via Celtics Blog), Doc Rivers left his team with some words to stew on after losing to the Derrick Rose-less Bulls. Among the complaints from Rivers was that his team played it "too cool" against Chicago which helped lead to the loss. Kevin Garnett wasn't so sure about that assessment.
"That's disappointing, he said that to us,'' Garnett said. "I'm out there on the floor, I don't think nobody is out there playing [with less effort] or [half-hearted]. Maybe he assessed something different.
"The coaches obviously have to get us going, put us in the right position to obviously go out and execute the game plan, but if that's what he saw, that's what he saw. I can't go off that. I just have to prepare to play as hard as I can, be ready to play.''
No doubt Rivers was more interested in getting his troops focused on their next task, playing the Pacers, than he was dwelling on the past loss, but it appears to have caught their attention so the Pacers should expect a good effort from the C's tonight, which I'm sure they are.
