Indianapolis Colts May Consider Jim Tressel In Head Coaching Search - SB Nation

The Indianapolis Colts hired Jim Tressel as a game-day consultant in September to help the coaching staff with various decisions. Now that Jim Caldwell has been fired as head coach, the question is whether or not the team would consider elevating Tressel to the head position?

According to the Indianapolis Star, it might be a possibility.

Owner Jim Irsay's plane flew Friday morning to Sarasota, Fla., where Tressel owns a home, and returned to Indianapolis later in the day. Multiple sources have said they expect the former Ohio State University coach to be interviewed for the Colts vacant head coaching position, but that could not be confirmed.

No word on whether or not that visit was actually to see Tressel.

Mike Freeman at CBS Sports doesn't think it will happen but does think Tressel will remain with the organization.

There was a report the Indianapolis Colts are at least considering disgraced former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel as head coach, who is on the Indianapolis staff as a gameday consultant. I checked with a Colts source and he said this: "No way in hell."

But this is the interesting part. The source explained that owner Jim Irsay likes Tressel and does want him to have some sort of role in the organization (a new head coach will have some say in that of course).

It would be quite the PR mess for the Colts to hire Tressel on the back of what happened at the end of his Ohio State tenure. Freeman's assessment seems more likely, but you never know. At least for now.
