The Indianapolis Colts reportedly had Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Jay Gruden and New York Giants defensive coordinator Perry Fewell on their list of coaching candidates.
According to CBS analyst Charley Casserly, Gruden declined the Colts' offer to interview for the position. Two weeks ago, Gruden signed a three-year, $3.6 million extension to remain the Bengals' offensive coordinator.
Fewell has been occupied with the Giants' playoff participation.
Colts owner Jim Irsay tweeted Saturday he hoped to have the coaching position filled this week.
The Colts have interviewed New Orleans Saints offensive coordinator Pete Carmichael Jr., Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and former Ohio State coach Jim Tressel. It's believed they also have an interest in Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer and former Minnesota Vikings coach Brad Childress.
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported the Colts also have interviewed Saints offensive line/run game coach Aaron Kromer.
Saturday: I would start Manning
Ever the loyal battery mate, center Jeff Saturday thinks Colts quarterback Peyton Manning will be playing in 2012. And, if it was up to Saturday, the four-time MVP would start.
"There's not a guy in the NFL who's gonna work harder than Peyton Manning at getting back," Saturday said Friday night on NFL Network's "NFL Total Access."
Saturday made it clear he wouldn't start a rookie ahead of Manning . . . even likely No. 1 draft pick Andrew Luck.
