Meadville, Pa. - Paced by Katie Aldrich's double-double, seventh-ranked DePauw improved to 10-1 overall and 3-0 in the North Coast Athletic Conference following a 75-59 win at Allegheny. The win was the Tigers' ninth straight. The Gators dropped to 8-5 overall and 3-1 in the conference.
DePauw held a 30-25 lead with five minutes left in the first half before Kate Walker hit a jumper and Alex Gasaway added a three-pointer to push the margin to double digits for the first time in the contest.
Allegheny's Erica Restich stopped the run with a bucket, but the Tigers closed the half with six straight points on two free throws from Ali Ross and baskets by Alison Stephens and Erin McGinnis to take a 41-27 lead into the intermission.
Aldrich (left) started the second half with a pair of baskets before Kate Walker knocked down a three and Ali Ross hit four straight free throws to cap a 9-0 run and a 20-2 stretch over the two halves which gave DePauw a 50-27 lead with 16:36 left.
The Gators got as close as 11 in the final three minutes, but the Tigers closed the game with a 7-2 run.
Aldrich led DePauw with 15 points and 12 rebounds in 24 minutes, while Ross added 15 and hit all 10 free throws she attempted. With her first rebound of the game, Aldrich became just the fifth player in program history with at least 1,000 points and 500 rebounds. Walker followed with 13 points and Gasaway rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10. Walker and Kathleen Molloy each dished out four assists in the win.
Restich paced Allegheny with 20 points with Daryl Ford adding 16 and Heidi Goeller 10. Ann Ryan led the Gators with six rebounds and Restich totaled three assists.
DePauw shot 40.3 percent from the floor after shooting 51.6 percent in the first half. The Tigers entered the game ranked third in three-point percentage and fifth in rebound margin and hit 6-of-13 from three-point range while holding a 44-24 edge on the boards. That margin led to a 31-7 advantage in second-chance points. Allegheny shot 47.2 percent from the floor, but attempted just five free throws.
The Tigers travel to Hiram tomorrow for a 2 p.m. contest with the Terriers.
